She is the first woman to receive the FIFA order of merit which is the highest honor awarded by FIFA, on and off the field. She also was named the FIFA player of the century in 2000. She is a former two-time world cup member for the United States women's national team and was a member of the 1996 United States women Olympics team that won the Olympic gold.
