Matt Nein was recently headlined in an article titled “5 strength and conditioning coaches the LA Rams must interview” and more officially in 2018 Matt was named the National Strength and Conditioning Association College Strength Coach of the Year. After a season on the Toronto Blue Jays staff, Matt took a full time job as the Coordinator of Sports Performance and Manager of Fitness and Facilities at Salisbury University. Over his almost 16 year career at Salisbury, Matt has trained 12 NCAA National Championship teams and 8 individual NCAA National Championshions. That is 20 NCAA National Championships since he took over sports performance at SU in field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse as well as track & field. Additionally under his watch Salisbury has seen 21 national title appearances including the baseball and softball World Series and the volleyball Final 8. Matt’s teams and athletes have won over 90 conference championships, made over 80 NCAA tournament appearances and he has trained over 330 All-Americans. Several athletes have gone from playing DIII at Salisbury to playing professional upon graduation.

In this interview Bobby and Matt talk about Matt’s core values of attitude, enthusiasm, energy and effort, how to hire phenomenal employees and make them better, how Matt teaches his athletes mental toughness in an experiential way, and why he believes it is so important to be intentional about your 50 cups of coffee.
