In this interview we discuss in detail what Coach Joe Sagula does to build deep and genuine connections and relationships with his players.

Joe is in his 30th year as the head coach at UNC and is one of the most successful coaches in college volleyball. He is UNC's winningest volleyball coach in history with 7 ACC Championships and 14 of the programs 18 NCAA tournament appearances. Over his entire 38 year head coaching career, first at the University of Pennsylvania and now of course at Chapel Hill, Joe has 811 wins and a .633 winning percentage as a Division I head coach. Coach Sagula has 11 regular season titles and 6 conference tournament titles, 3 in the Ivy League and 3 so far in the ACC. He has the most ACC wins of any coach in history with 324, his seven ACC titles ties for the most all time among the league’s coaches and in 2010 Joe became the first coach in ACC history to earn 200 league wins.

Coach Joe Sagula has 4 times been named the AVCA Regional Coach of the Year, 4 times been named the ACC Coach of the Year, 4 times been named the Ivy League Coach of the Year and currently ranks 6th among active coaches and 16th all time in Division I victories. Coach Sagula has served as an Assistant Coach for the USA National team and has twice coached at the US Olympic Festival taking home two silver medals. This year Coach Joe Sagula becomes the first coach and fourth overall individual elected to the North Carolina Volleyball Hall of Fame.
