A reporter was recently doing a live report on a TV station in West Virginia when she was struck by a car.

While the national media applauded reporter Tori Yorgey for finishing her live shot, another veteran reporter has a different view on how that story should have been told.

Nicole Vowell spent a decade in TV news and believes it is time for the business to stop the practice of making journalists work in the field by themselves. Vowell spends her time working with journalists on the stress of the job and the impact it has on their mental health.

Vowell and I went over many topics of the business that the general public likely doesn't know about. We talk about how the job of a journalist includes working for less than desirable salaries, being asked to perform the tasks of that used to be assigned to many people (now it's all rounded up into one role referred to in the business as a multi-media journalist), working in unsafe conditions like severe weather, working in the public eye by yourself and often times having to deal with harassment from people and more.
