Back in May, what feels like 20 years ago, The Last Dance aired. If you’re unfamiliar, this is a documentary series that was released on ESPN about Michael Jordan and his last season with the Chicago Bulls.

I, and I’m sure many others, watched the documentary series and one of the themes that came up was Jordan’s leadership style. In the doc they don’t go into too much detail about it but it’s framed as something necessary in order to win. This got me thinking.

What does it take to be a leader? Is to be hard headed and bully those around into doing what you want? This tends to be a common method of leading and leadership and a lot of people think this is the only way. This way of thinking is found in business and sports (and other areas) and is one I disagree with.

I forgot to mention it in the actual episode but here is one of the few articles I came across that critiques Jordan’s leadership style. So if you want some extra reading: https://www.thescore.com/nba/news/1973622/the-last-dance-takeaways-episodes-7-8

That’s all for this week. Thanks for listening!

Peace.
