On August 8, 2021, Lionel Messi stood on a podium and weeped his eyes out as he announced his decision to leave his boyhood club - Barcelona!! The reason, well, it essentially came down to the La Liga's salary cap - a lower cap for Barcelona meant a desperate need to shed players, including the world greatest footballer (arguably!).

After a quick instagram poll on salary caps, we found that people's opinions on applying a cap in sports received a polarized response. With that in mind, this week, we discuss the positives and pitfalls of applying salary caps across sports. Which organizations have successfully been able to impose this type of regulation? Does capping spending really even the playing field? Player caps versus team caps?
