Episode 154: My Friend Sasami - a podcast by David James Young

Sasami Ashworth grew up as a quiet achiever. She pursued music only on her own terms, and even when she ended up in a touring band it was as a side player. It's only in the last 18 months that Sasami has finally emerged in the spotlight as a singer-songwriter in her own right. Her debut self-titled album is a thing of vulnerability and resplendent indie-rock beauty, indebted to the likes of Liz Phair and The Breeders and yet quintessential enough to forge its own identity. In November 2019, Sasami arrived in Australia for her second visit and her first national support in support of Spacey Jane. Before a show in Wollongong, Ashworth (and perhaps a special guest) spoke openly about piano lessons, touring with Cherry Glazerr and meeting Debbie Harry.
