Episode 155: My Friends Crywank - a podcast by David James Young

There was never a universe in which such a strange band with such a strange sound and an unmentionable name would be successful. Except, of course, this one. A wholly DIY freak-folk expedition, Crywank have been streamed millions of times and faced a fervent cult fanbase wherever they would show their faces. How exactly did two working-class English punks make such a considerable dent? Vocalist/guitarist James Clayton and drummer Dan Watson (with special guest melodica player Joel Hernandez) offered up a guided tour before their last-ever Sydney show at the Red Rattler theatre towards the end of 2019. Expect ongoing tales of musical boxes, travel disasters and a testicular scare in the midst of an emotional rollercoaster. Yes, all of those stories are real.
