Ipswich, Suffolk natives Basement are all about breaking down barriers. Across three studio albums, they've blended their love of second-wave emo, grunge, alternative rock and punk rock into some of the sharpest rock music to emerge from the UK in the 2010s. Then, there's also the literal aspect of things - at one of the band's shows, the surge of the crowd was so powerful that the crowd barrier caved in. This is the kind of passionate response that has come to define Basement's live show - screamed lyrics, high-flying stagedives and non-stop energy, even during the slow songs. Roughly an hour before doors opened for their sell-out Sydney show at the Factory Theatre, vocalist Andrew Fisher and bassist Duncan Stewart shared stories from across the pond - kicking around in hardcore bands, life after Basement and their ascent to becoming the biggest little band in the world.
