Geographer and writer Joshua Jelly-Schapiro joins to discuss his new book, Names of New York: Discovering The City's Past, Present, And Future Through Its Place-Names. He explores the power of names, and chronicles how and why the city's early residents, from the Lenape, to the Dutch and the British, chose the names they did. He also looks at how generations of immigrants made their mark and continue to shape New York's identity.

Photographer Andrew Garn joins us to discuss his new book, Wildflowers of New York City, which features unique images of common plants that live all around the five boroughs.

On the heels of the announcement of a new bill heading to the state legislature for co-op boards to be more transparent,  Jesse Shafer, a licensed real estate broker for Compass, stops by to discuss the uniquely New York tradition of co-ops and we’ll take listener calls.

WNYC arts and culture editor Jennifer Vanasco shares the best places to see cherry blossoms in NYC.

Born around 1853 on an Alabama plantation, the artist Bill Traylor lived a life spanning the Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow segregation, and the Great Migration. Through his drawings, he would later become known as one of the greatest outsider artists in American history, and to some is considered the father of American modernism. His story is told in a new documentary, "Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts," and director Jeffrey Wolf and producer Sam Pollard join us to discuss.
