Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the podcast from Amazin’ Avenue focusing on the Mets’ minor league system.
John S. Pemburton first synthesized his recipe for Coca-Cola on this date back in 1886, so the team discusses their most and least favorite Coke variations in Promote, Extend, Trade.
After, they discuss their favorite minor league prospects that they followed never made it to the major leagues or never had their career trajectories pan out as expected. Steve reminisces on Juan Urbina, Lukas recalls Fernando Martinez, Ken remembers the recently-retired Cameron Planck, and Thomas discusses Colby Woodmansee.
Finally, they talk about Brian Cole, who tragically died in a car accident on March 31st, 2001. Cole rocketed up through the Mets’ minor league system from 1998-2000 and seemed poised to crack the major league roster before losing his life. His brief minor league career almost a mirage, many of the best players of the era still call Brian “the best player you never saw.”
