This week, Rob Wolff travels back to the 1973-74 seasons to take a look at the brief but memorable Mets tenure of a gawky, gangly long shot 31st round draft pick that the Shea faithful fondly embraced as ‘The Stork.’ 
A true 70s character, the meditation-loving outfielder played with passion and abandon—which may in part have led to the devastating outfield collision that sidetracked his career. We’ll talk about a player who fought back to appear in the 1973 World Series and play again in 1974, but was never the same on the field—yet went on to an admirable post-baseball career, and still remains a beloved figure in the rich Mets tapestry.
