As we continue to celebrate Project Hope in the month of October, we have two special guests who are leading the battle against the drug epidemic in Tuscarawas County. Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos from the Tuscarawas County Court of Common Pleas General Division and Judge Nan VonAllman from the New Philadelphia Municipal Court join the show to discuss recovery court and why it works.
You'll learn what recovery court - often referred to as drug court - looks like and how it operates. Hear from two experienced and knowledgeable judges as they share stories and information about the programs, processes, and procedures in recovery court. You'll learn how the nature of drug usage has changed over the past 20 years and why the controversy surrounding marijuana legalization is more crucial than we may realize.
You'll also hear some incredible stories that exemplify the positive impact recovery court has on our community and the lives it saves. As you'll learn, addiction comes in many forms and affects each person differently. Recovery court strives to help those battling addiction find a path of hope rather than a path of despair. The program is forward thinking and addresses the drug problem with an emphasis on the individual's wellness and mental health.
