All You Wanted to Know About the Aeronautical Knowledge and Safety Test

Today's question is about the aeronautical knowledge and safety test. As a Part 107 pilot, do you need to clear this test if you intend to fly recreationally?

Our caller for today, Greg has come up with a great question today. As you may be aware, the FAA's Reauthorization Act requires all hobby pilots to pass an Aeronautical Knowledge and Safety Test. Greg, a Part 107 pilot is wondering if he needs to clear this test so that he can fly recreationally as well.

A Part 107 certificate intends to equip drone pilots with the knowledge required to fly safely as per FAA's rules and regulations. So, should Part 107 be required to clear another test meant to vet recreational pilots? And considering these stricter regulations for hobby pilots, is it easier to simply fly as a Part 107 pilot? Towards the end, we discuss some of the pitfalls of the proposed Remote ID rule. Tune in for some excellent insights. Thanks for the great question, Greg. Fly Safe!
