Welcome to Episode 61 of the Back Lot 605 Podcast! With 2020 here and award season in full swing, we take a look back at the year 2019. We discuss the best…and the worst…of the year. This is our 2019 Retrospective in Film, hosted by Casey Kelderman and Brian Mensing.























The Box Office







Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker continues strong in the number one spot with $33.7 million in it’s third week out. Coming in at number two is Jumanji: The Next Level with $26.5 million. Surprise box office hit Little Women takes the number three slot with $13.5 million. The Grudge opens at number four with $11.3 million. Finally, Frozen II continues to be a draw with $11.2 million in it’s 7th week out.







2019 Retrospective in Film







With a new year beginning, we reflect back on the year previous as we discuss our favorite films of 2019. Some of Casey’s favorites from the year include The Lighthouse, Dolemite Is My Name, and Doctor Sleep. Brian’s favorites include Ready or Not, Knives Out, and Joker.







Some of our favorite first time watches from the year include Society, Anna and the Apocalypse, and La Jetee.
