Released in 2014, Get On Up stars the late Chadwick Boseman as music icon James Brown, who during the 50’s through the 80’s changed popular music, ushering in a new wave of funky rock n roll. The film is directed by Tate Taylor, who reteams with The Help star Viola Davis, who portrays the estranged mother of a young Brown, and whom returns to his life after his rise to fame. Get On Up chronicles the career of Brown, from his upbringing in poverty, to his rise in the 1950’s, and his super-stardom of the 1960’s and 70’s. The film also stars Nelsan Ellis, Dan Aykroyd, and Lennie James.
