The historic State Theatre in downtown Sioux Falls has been closed for nearly three decades. Thanks to some very generous donations, the theater is in it’s final stretch before opening in the Fall. The historic landmark of downtown Sioux Falls, SD has been on hiatus since 1990, nearly 70 years after it initially opened it’s doors.

Executive Director Allison Weiland and General Manager Steven Dahlmeier oversee the day-to-day operations of the theater. They were gracious enough to take a couple of hours out of their busy schedule to sit down with us for an interview and a tour of the theater. Currently The State is on track to make a full reopening this Fall, with much of the main floor finished. They are still currently looking for funding for the upper levels of the theatre.

In the interview we discuss the history of the theater, including the current construction that is taking place. Also, we ask them what patrons can expect from The State when they do open. This includes, what types of movies the theater will be showing, seating, and even some of Steven and Allison’s favorite movies.
