Welcome to the 34th episode of the Back Lot 605 Podcast! This week we are joined by the Andy Heller the resident ‘Fat Dude’ of Fat Dude Digs Flicks! Andy joins us this week to discuss our favorite movies involving cults! With the release of Ari Aster’s Midsommar this week, we take a look at our favorites from the sub-genre of cult films!







The Box Office







Toy Story 4 tops the weekend once again with a nearly $60 million 2nd week. Inanimate objects dominated the top two spots as Annabelle Comes Home opens with an impressive $20 million opening weekend. Yesterday takes in a solid $17 million in it’s first weekend. The remake of Child’s Play takes a 60% drop only taking in $6 million in it’s second weekend out.







The News







In local news, the Sioux Falls State Theater will finally open it’s doors to moviegoers in 2020. The State has received financial backing from Sanford and the City of Sioux Falls to finish the multi-million dollar project.







In further news, Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell gets an official theatrical run courtesy of Fathom Events. The Devil’s Rejects sequel will get a 3 night run September 16-18. Zombie also releases an official poster for the film.







In casting news, Paul Rudd has joined the 2020 sequel to the original Ghostbusters. Henry Cavill and Milli Bobby Brown join the cast of Enola Holmes, as Sherlock and Enola respectively. Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula in the Disney live action Little Mermaid. Finally, Jordana Brewster is set to reprise her Fast and Furious role in Fast and Furious 9.







Finally, we have two new trailers that dropped this week. The remake of Charlie’s Angels gives us the first look at the new Angels including Kristen Stewart and Naomi Scott. Elizabeth Banks directs the remake that hits theaters November 15.







Jumanji: The Next Level showcases The Rock and Kevin Hart channeling their inner Danny DeVito and Danny Glover. The team is back to save one of their own, only this time their avatars have changed. The Next Level hits theaters December 13.







Movies Involving Cults







In honor of Midsommar we take a look at our favorite films involving cults. Now, this list will not include films like The Room or Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rather the Schmuck Club and the Fat Dude look at the dark and disturbing life inside a cult. What are some of your favorite films involving cults?
