Summer 1977, a madman is on the loose in New York City using a .44 caliber gun to kill random citizens near ”lovers lane’s”. During one of the hottest summers on record, NYC is set ablaze by both the heat and bubbling fear of Son of Sam killer. In Spike Lee’s take on the Son of Sam murders, Summer of Sam tells the story of a community of Italian-Americans during the rise of the .44 caliber killer. On this episode we are joined by longstanding guest of the show Charlie Eccles to discuss this true crime film.

Summer of Sam is written and direct by Spike Lee, a native resident of New York City, who gives a unique spin on the summer of Son of Sam. John Leguizamo stars as Vinny, a NYC hairdresser who spends most of his free time at the disco club with his recently wed wife, while also sleeping with many other women from around the neighborhood. Adrien Brody stars as Richie, a punk rocker who begins a budding relationship with Ruby (Jennifer Esposito) as the two find themselves intertwined in the 1970’s NYC adult film industry. As the story’s converge, Vinny and Richie become engulfed in a manhunt for the .44 caliber killer.
