The Box Office

With four wide release films released this past weekend, the box office was even spread in the top five for the week. Midway tops the box office with a $17.5 million opening. In a disappointing opening, Doctor Sleep takes in $14 million. The John Cena lead Playing With Fire opens at $12.8 million in the the third spot. Last Christmas opens at $11.6 million for the fourth position. Lastly, Joker continues strong with a $9.2 million sixth week.

The News

Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell are in talks to join the cast of the Matt Reeves directed The Batman. Serkis is in talks to play Bruce Wayne’s butler and confidant Alfred. Farrell is in talks to play the villainous Penguin. Furthermore in casting news, Tremors 7: Island Fury has Richard Brake (31) and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) join the film.

A new Scream movie is in the works at Spyglass films. They have yet to disclose whether the film will be a remake or a sequel. Also, no word if original writer Kevin Williamson will return. We get a first look at Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man starring Elizabeth Moss.

Lastly, the biggest news story of the week. The late actor James Dean will be brought back to the big screen for an upcoming film titled Finding Jack. Dean, who has been passed away over 60 years ago, will be CGI recreated for the film. This has sparked controversy in the film industry. The likeness rights have been approved by the Dean estate.
