As recording sessions go, this one was an epic. We sat down mid-afternoon, before gradually cancelling our evening plans and discussing athletics’ news well into the wintry night. Colin McCourt, the British Athletics Writers’ Association luncheon, and that laughably recognisable image of a ‘mystery athlete’ British Athletics challenged us to identify on Instagram: it’s all in there. Two terrific interviewees also feature: Perri ‘the smile’ Shakes-Drayton, to discuss swapping her spikes for skates, and goat-loving, poem-crafting Bobby Clay, whose powerfully honest account of her struggles with osteoporosis has had a huge impact upon the athletics’ community.
