In this episode of The Link Lee Woodmansee talks about Bible Intake with five of his students: Crystal Williams, Alex Hopper, Faith Walker, Caleb Harris, and Sarah Schneider. This conversation is a distillation of a large group discussion covering two chapters of Donald Whitney's book on Spiritual Disciplines.
Questions discussed include:
1. What emphasis has there been on Bible Intake in your home and your Church growing up? How has this affected you today?
2. How would you describe Whitney's approach to Bible Intake? Why does he subdivide this discipline into multiple areas?
3. What quote from Donald Whitney impacted you the most?
4. Give an example of how you would have a different view of God if you never heard the Bible? What if you only heard someone read it to you? Only read for yourself and didn't study? Etc...
5. Why is it so important to continually receive Bible intake even if that intake isn't uplifting or immediately emotionally beneficial?
6. How would you respond to the notion that Bible study, memorization, and meditation is really just for the "spiritually mature" Christians? Is there a minimal level of maturity you must attain before starting this discipline?
7. What practical steps should students be taking to improve their Bible Intake discipline? What has been the most beneficial thing for you?
