In September 1941, the Nazis slaughtered nearly 34,000 Jews over a day and a half on the site of Babyn Yar in Kyiv. A memorial to those killed was erected in a park underneath Kyiv’s TV Tower. Yesterday, the memorial was destroyed by Russian bombing. With parallels being drawn between the events taking place in Ukraine today and what was happening in Europe in the 1930s, Today’s Amol Rajan speaks to Ruslan Kavatsiuk, Deputy CEO at Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center. Also on the programme, speaking to Martha Kearney, was Margaret Macmillan, Emeritus Professor of history at the University of Toronto.
