It's Time to Throw in the Towel, Jeb!We hear all kinds of messages and inspiration about never quitting, giving 110%, and many other cliches. The 2016 Presidential Primary Race has shown us that there is a time when it makes sense to just throw in the towel and call it quits.Maybe you have money and your reputation on the line. Things are not going the way you expected. It is possible you are at a point where you know if you continue on the course you are on now, you will absolutely fail. How do you let go of a dream you have pursued for years, especially if you have wanted it your entire life as far back as you can remember? When do you know it is time to throw in the towel or go in a different direction?Brandon and Jerry discuss three areas that will help us know when it is time to throw in the towel.PeopleMetricsA written planHaving the right people around you is crucial in recognizing when you have reached a point of no return. You will learn criteria on how to select a good adviser, listen to customers, and ask coworkers for feedback. We know where we are going because we measure the distance we have traveled. The metrics you collect will differ depending on what you are trying to accomplish. It is important to have measures that tell you how you are doing. For Jeb Bush, it was the polls and maybe his dwindling campaign fund. What are your metrics for your dream or goal? It's hard to know what to measure if you do not have an idea of where you want to be. A written plan is vital. Combining your written plan with your metrics and the feedback from others will help you understand whether you need to quit, adjust your plan, or change course altogether.Make it so giving feedback to you is quick and easy for others. When you are approached with feedback, welcome it and receive it.Resources and LinksMalcolm Gladwell TED Talk about Ragu sauceBtR 022 - Leaving Corporate Life to Pursue a Dream, Interview with Davidson Young of The Leaders Foundry PodcastConnect With UsSubscribe on iTunesSubscribe on StitcherEmail: info@beyondtherut.comCall: 361-596-3788, tell us what you'd like us to cover and how we can help you make your own path and live a life beyond the rut.
