Censor (2021) - a podcast by brandon Ford

Video Nasties Month concludes not with a Video Nasty, but with a movie about Video Nasties. Specifically, about a woman, whose job it is to censor Video Nasties. That’s either absurdly confusing, or insanely meta.

I consider Prano Bailey-Bond’s 2021 CENSOR to be a breath of fresh air in a decade which has been pretty disappointing for horror devotees. I’ve found very few current releases to be at all worthwhile, especially those which have been celebrated by fans and critics. Call me a contrarian, but movies like X, THE MENU, THE STYLIST, and BEAU IS AFRAID really didn’t do it for me. As a matter of fact, my faith in the genre has been on a steady decline. It’s movies like CENSOR, with strong performances by actors like Niamh Algar, that remind me there’s still good stuff out there. You just have to look for it.

I’m very proud to end the month of October with this one. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
