Taboo (1980) - a podcast by brandon Ford

I don’t think Tony is ever going to forgive me for this one…

Well, I’ve been saying for months that I’d like to do a porno movie for The Blind Rage Podcast. For a while, I was toying with the idea of doing something rooted in the horror genre. Perhaps a parody. There is, after all, a slew of them, including FRIDAY THE 13TH, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and even SCREAM. But those don’t have the cult cache I often strive for when it comes to content for the podcast.

While perusing Vinegar Syndrome’s website, I saw they had the first 4 installments in the TABOO franchise. I’ve been familiar with the series for a while and knew the first few have something of a following. The original film, which is the subject of this week’s episode, follows Barbara Scott (Kay Parker), a housewife trapped in a loveless marriage. Because he doesn’t feel sexually satisfied, her husband and father of their teenage son Paul (Mike Ranger )decides to walk out on them. It is with his “teeny bopper” secretary with whom he plans to run off. Sounds exactly like a soap opera, doesn’t it? Well, this soap opera takes a very strange turn when mother and son feel a sexual chemistry that comes seemingly out of nowhere. Because this is an adult film, things go exactly where you think they will.

With tons of bad acting, cringe-worthy dialogue, and a story that is as farfetched as it is thin, TABOO takes the viewer on an incredibly strange journey—one I don’t think my poor co-host properly prepared himself for.
