“You can never be too careful…”

Tony the Tiger a.k.a. The Thunder from Down Under joins me for 1993’s THE CRUSH, a movie that essentially revels in its overwhelming impropriety. There are numerous shots, lines, and plot points that make this an experiment in suspense filmmaking you’d never see today, when most movies, even the majority of mainstream American horror films, are so watered down, you need a life preserver just to get through the first reel.

Alicia Silverstone’s portrayal of Darian Forrester—a fourteen-year-old psychotic with a crush on an older man—in my opinion, holds up as one of the best in the obsessive love subgenre. The way she delivers lines like, “Ever do a virgin? You know you want to…” with a seductive, yet sinister, look in her eyes makes this a must-see for fans of erotic thrillers from the 1990s.
