There’s a reason they tell you to keep a healthy distance from hanging works of art while strolling your favorite museum, and it has nothing to do with sneezing on the Mona Lisa. If you’re like Anna Manning (Asia Argento), you enter the painting, falling headfirst into a strange new world, where fang-toothed fish are so friendly, they come up and plant one right on your mouth.

Anna is experiencing what is known as The Stendhal Syndrome, a disruption of the mind which occurs when the eye takes in some of the most beautiful paintings in the world. It is a strange and uncommon phenomenon Dario Argento himself experienced as a child and, being that it had such a strong hold on him for the decades that would follow, he turned it into one of his most visually stunning films.

My Good buddy and #1 Chucky Fanboy James Garibay joins me for this commentary, so hold your breath and dive on in. It’s going to be a very strange one indeed.
