In the wake of the WWE’s efforts to push him forward as the face of the company, inevitably earning the disrespect of millions of fans who appreciate and regard professional wrestling as a legitimate sport and resulting in ongoing backlash towards the individual, it’s irresponsible to ignore the positive impact that John Cena has had on American society in the early 21st century. More than just the spokesman for a behemoth in the sports entertainment industry, Cena has grown into a cultural phenomenon, taking on a much larger role in the cultural zeitgeist than World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) could have likely anticipated. Cena’s efforts both inside and outside of the wrestling ring have proven time and again that not only is he an entertainer and lauded showman, but a role model to generations young and old. He’s still kind of a tool though.
