A weekend-long collegiate esports tournament points to exponential growth in game play throughout metro Atlanta with both conglomerates and local gaming studios unifying around the future of technology.


As in-person events again become the norm, the Collegiate Esports Commissioner's Cup, which is meant to draw game-playing, college-bound youth into esports, will be the largest collegiate festival of its kind in the Southeast.


Skillshot Media founder Todd Harris is among the event producers of the Collegiate Esports Commissioner's Cup happening at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8.


The presenting partners of the Collegiate Esports Commissioner's Cup include Microsoft, and the IT Solutions company CDW.


Adding to the list of partners are McDonald's, the Atlanta Falcons, Oakley, the U.S. Air Force, Barbasol, Neustreet, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, CTRL, Futures First Gaming, and HomeTown Ticketing.


The University of Georgia, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, the Savannah College of Art & Design, Morris Brown College, Morehouse College, Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University, Georgia Tech and Georgia College are among the participating academic institutions supporting this event.


Todd, who is the event's head contact behind-the-scenes, talks about how companies from various industries and of different tiers are joining the excitement to find their place in esports.
