When it was announced early Monday afternoon that David Price was heading to the 10-Day DL, his spot in the rotation was left wide open.

Josh Smith, a recent Pawtucket call up, was thrown into starting for the first time since 2016. He didn't fare so well, suffering a grand slam in the second inning. Though Heath Hembree and Ryan Weber calmed the storm, the damage had been done.

Four runs were all the support John Means needed to shut down the Red Sox offense, allowing just two batters to reach base. The rookie southpaw sealed the win for the Orioles over seven innings of work.

Hector Velazquez and David Hess will continue the AL East battle in game two of the series tonight.
