The Red Sox won in convincing fashion in game one of the doubleheader Wednesday defeating the Orioles 19-3.
The Red Sox had fiver homers and nine doubles and matched their biggest runs total of the season. The 14 extra-base hits were the most in the majors this year and the most for Boston since 1950.David Price had a rough start to the game, but settled down in his final tuneup game before the playoffs. Price allowed three runs all in the second inning, six hits and three walks, striking out six before leaving with a 10-3 lead after five.
Rafael Devers had four hits and six RBI, including two homers, and Mookie Betts had two hits to raise his major league-best batting average to .346. Betts also stole a base, making him the second player in Red Sox history with at least 30 homers and 30 stolen bases in a season.Game 2 of the doubleheader went to the Orioles in a 10-3 victory over the Red Sox.
In Sale’s final tuneup game he struck out eight over 4 ? innings. Sale left after giving up Adam Jones’ go-ahead, RBI double that made it 3-2 in the fifth. Sale threw 92 pitches allowing 3 runs and 4 hits.
