Mahmoud Shoolizadeh’s melodramatic morality play about teen pregnancy goes to great lengths to subvert the cliches typical to this kind of story, and in many ways, it succeeds! Ray and Sarah, who both look to be about 12 years old, are somehow physiologically capable of making a baby despite the fact that Ray’s voice hasn’t even changed yet. Ray, the father, is notably way more excited than mother Sarah about this new life. Ray goes to an attorney to try to prevent her from getting an abortion, but ultimately it’s a horrifying nightmare Sarah has about a sadistic abortion clinic that convinces her to keep the baby. Still, what happens next would be considered a tragedy in the fathers’ rights community (preteen division).
