Addendums: Use enough IVF to avoid shock. For more information regarding burn specific shock please see the Cardiovascular Effects of Burn Injuries and Advanced Hemodynamic Monitoring. The burned skin can make line placement a challenge "it's ok to put lines through burned skin when other options are not present.  EKG leads may need to be affixed with sutures or staples...", "a recognized pattern of cardiovasular response in Burns is tachycardia and high cardiac output, then low output secondary to third spacing...(treated with ivf) and then around 24h-36 a low C.O. secondary to myocardial suppressive factors and somewhat refractory to inotropes though they may be necessary". - Dr. Fidler

Suggested ABA IVF rates for patients whom are not at a burn center:

• 5 years old and younger: 125 ml LR per hour 

• 6 – 13 years old: 250 ml LR per hour

• 14 years and older: 500 ml LR per hour
