Just to name a few coaches that coached at West Warwck the legendary Frank Maznicki (who over five decades, from the 1940s through the 1980s, was the man. He took the Wizards to several division and state titles; Steve Alves Sr., who won state titles around the 90s Steve Alves Jr; and Lagor, whose 2013 team won the Division II Super Bowl).
Dave Caito was hired for the position after prior head coach, Shane Lagor, stepped down to spend more time with his family. Superintendent said that the decision to hire Caito who stepped down from Tollman High School head football coach position after 15 years was chosen after a throughout interview process. AND WE KNOW HOW THAT TURNED OUT
Now with all that in the past. West Warwick moves in a positive direction. Wesley Pennington a 17-year veteran Head Coach of football, has been coaching with a heart to make good men out of the players that he coaches. Coaching the players in all aspects of their lives. In order that they not just be good football players, but good representatives and contributors to their communities.
As a coach for the Northmen of North Smithfield there has only been three seasons where the team did not make the division playoffs. 2011 Div Champs, In 2018 the team went undefeated won the Division and became runner up in the division State Championship football game. In 2019 The Northmen again went undefeated won the Division and won the State Championship. Coach Wesley Pennington was selected as coach of the year for Division 4, Statewide coaches, and Interscholastic League in 2019.
