October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is talked about, woman get mammograms, daughters are taught how to self- check, families walk, run and ride for Breast Cancer. During the summer many diseases have walk, runs and rides, but what if all year round we educate ourselves on the dangers that lurk in our bodies and GET CHECK-UPS REGULARLY. Can we get over the fear of doctors with knowledge? Maybe if we paid attention to the signs and acted on them we would be able to enjoy what God gave us LIFE.Dr. Alicia (Phoenix) Matthews will join “Can We Talk for REAL” co-host Ina, Michelle and Terry Boi, Wednesday, October 9th as she talks about health issues that plague the LGBTQ community, the black community, the human race as a whole. Dr. Matthews will discuss: Risk factors for breast and cervical cancer, Cancer rates in the Black and LGBTQ communities, Effective smoking cessation treatments and Wellness promotion, just to start the conversation.
Dr. Phoenix Matthews is an Associate Professor and clinical psychologist at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Principal Investigator at the Howard Brown Health Center.
