From 1909 to 1911, 1,000 African-Americans came from the American South to Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Before racist attitudes closed the door on the immigration, those black settlers would found several communities in the prairie provinces.
One of those communities was Amber Valley, which had a short history but an impactful one on Alberta and Canada.
