CRITICAL CARE. Architecture for a Broken Planet
Resuscitation for a planet in intensive care – at the Architekturzentrum Vienna, curators Angelika Fitz and Elke Krasny present the result of their research over the last three years: Examples for best practice in architecture and urbanism from all over the world.

The exhibition title is Critical Care, as our planet is « in the emergency room where he has to be taken care of », according to the curators. The 21 groundbreaking projects from all over the world that are on display in the show present innovative solutions for the multiple ecological and social crises, where public institutions, architects and planners collaborate with the concerned local populations.

According to this innovative and intelligent approach, the therapy and repair of the planet integrate the specific situations on the ground. The exhibited projects address issues like flood and earthquake protection, local expertise and knowledge transfer, resource preservation, conversion of buildings or new concepts for public space.

In the exhibition, large formated pictures and models as well as a number of videos explain the background of the projects and let the various protagonists of the architectural and urbanist projects explain their views. After all the construction industry also has a certain responsibility for the urgently necessary repair of the planet, and the exhibition demonstrates that architecture and urbanism do not necessarily always come along with ruthless exploitation of resources and labor.
