COVID-19 challenged us to reveal what we really believe in, and it changed life away from normal in a way that continues to this day. Trusting God in the face of so much uncertainty requires faith in every area of life and in all kinds of vocations, including laboratory research. Join Ben McFarland, a professor in biochemistry and structural immunology at a Christian university, as he looks back on how God’s nature and faithfulness showed itself through the consistent science of viruses and health, even during this difficult and inconsistent year.

As the classroom and laboratory moved to a computer screen through remote learning, my students and I learned new things about the virus through research into its evolution. This research came from a conviction that God made the world in a way that we can take it apart and, by God’s grace, put it back together again with medicine and vaccines. The students who took part in this process created new knowledge that let us understand more about this virus. God gave us hope and healing, even in unprecedented times, through careful, humble science.
