Pt. 10: When to Stand & When to Flee

By Louie Marsh, 8-6-2023

Last pic – fight or flight

1) Get myself RIGHT with God.

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.  (1 Peter 5:6-7, ESV)

2) I must have a CLEAR VIEW of my real enemy-Satan.

8Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour  (1 Peter 5:8, ESV).

·       I must also be constantly VIGILANT.

11so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” (2 Corinthians 2:11, ESV)

15“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” (Matthew 7:15, ESV)

3) I must stand firm and FIGHT BACK.

9Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.  (1 Peter 5:9, ESV)

·       I STAND FIRM against Satan and his strategies.

7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7, ESV)

13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm... 16In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; (Ephesians 6:13, 17, ESV)

·       However, I FLEE temptation.

13No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13, ESV)

12she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house.” (Genesis 39:12, ESV)

4) I will TRUST God to take care of me.

10And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 5:10-11, ESV)

5) I will strengthen my PERSONAL relationships.

12By Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.  13She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings, and so does Mark, my son. 14Greet one another with the kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.” (1 Peter 5:12-14, ESV)
