On The Road To Resurrection…

1) I need to see what’s REALLY GOING ON.

51  When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52  And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53  But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. Luke 9:51-53 (ESV)

  • God has a plan even when I can’t SEE IT.

  • God has a good outcome even when I can’t BELIEVE IT.

2) I need to LEARN HOW to make firm decisions.

51  When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. Luke 9:51 (ESV)

17  At that time Hazael king of Syria went up and fought against Gath and took it. But when Hazael set his face to go up against Jerusalem, 2 Kings 12:17 (ESV)

  • Take time to get the FACTS

11So I went to Jerusalem and was there three days. 12Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me. And I told no one what my God had put into my heart to do for Jerusalem. There was no animal with me but the one on which I rode. 13I went out by night by the Valley Gate to the Dragon Spring and to the Dung Gate, and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem that were broken down and its gates that had been destroyed by fire.” (Nehemiah 2:11–13, ESV)

  • But then MAKE that decision!

17Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer derision.”” (Nehemiah 2:17, ESV)

3) I need to FOLLOW THROUGH on those decisions.

7  But the Lord GOD helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame. 8  He who vindicates me is near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand up together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me. 9  Behold, the Lord GOD helps me; who will declare me guilty? Behold, all of them will wear out like a garment; the moth will eat them up. Isaiah 50:7-9 (ESV)

4) I need to FIRMLY BELIEVE that Jesus is in control.

51  When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem

40  and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41  Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. 42  And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus. Acts 5:40-42 (ESV)

12  Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13  Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14  I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15  Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Philippians 3:12-15 (ESV)
