Wise Up!

Part 6: Wise In the End

by Louie Marsh, 11-26-2023

1) If I’m wise I’ll consider My  DEATH

12So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12, ESV)

I know that right now I’ve lost some of you - we run and hide from death - it’s not a fun topic - yet we must face and deal with it sooner or later.

There are good reasons for doing so - it pays off not only in the next life but in this one too!

2) Doing so give me the PROPER PERSEPCTIVE on life.

5For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5, ESV)

The body ages in 7 year cycles - if you are 30 or over - your carcass is decaying at an ever increasing rate!!  Oil of Schmolay, Oriental Pearl Dream, etc. won’t stop it - neither will the Psychic Hot Line!!

Of course everyone knows this - but most people avoid thinking about it and so end up wasting their life.

3) Wisdom’s Proper Perspective

On Myself…

·       God made me for a REASON (PURPOSE)

36For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption,” (Acts 13:36, ESV)

10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, ESV)

·       This SHAPES  my entire  LIFE.

12Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12–14, ESV)

·       I Only Have So Much TIME  to finish.

6For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:6–8, ESV)

On Life…

·       I Won’t Fear TROUBLE

5Why should I fear in times of trouble, when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me,” (Psalm 49:5, ESV)

·       Status & Power Won’t INTIMIDATE  Me.

“Do not be overawed when a man grows rich… for he will take nothing with him when he dies”,  Psalm 49:16-17

·       I’ll Think & Live In The LONG TERM

25choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.” (Hebrews 11:25–26, ESV)

On God…

·       After This Life I MEET  GOD

27And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,” (Hebrews 9:27, ESV)

·       The Only Way To God Is CHRIST

6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, ESV)

·       He Will  REWARD  What I’ve Done

12Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.” (1 Corinthians 3:12–15, ESV)
