In this episode, CeeBee continues to read in the chapter of number two Earth.


First it is necessary to use Heaven knowledge to open up round understanding; then use this Earth practice to develop and complete this understanding. If you practice concentration exercises without first having understanding, you will surely become an obscurantist.




Just follow knowledge and then apply it; then you will find the "director" and get the advantage of direction.

This is like the eyes and the feet working together to convey you easily into a cool pond, or like skill and strength working together to hit the target at a hundred paces.


If you go southwest, you will only get yin companions; this is like trying to complement water with water—it does not work. If you go northeast, you lose those yin companions and get in tune with knowledge; only then arc you stable in correctness of balance of concentration and insight, and have a good outlook.




THE OVERALL JUDGMENT: Consummate is the creative basis of earth; all beings live on its sustenance, as it goes along in accord with the communications it receives from heaven.


Earth is thick and supports beings. Its quality is of boundlessness. Its embrace is far-reaching and its light is great; material things and living beings all succeed.


The mare is of the category of earth; she travels the earth boundlessly, gentle, obedient, helpful, faithful. This is how those with developmental potential go to the goal; if they go ahead, they lose the way; if they follow behind, they attain constancy.


To gain companionship in the southwest is to go with one's own kind. Having lost companionship in the northeast, eventually there is celebration. The good outlook of stability and correctness corresponds to the boundlessness of the earth.




To interpret in Buddhist terms, Earth represents the essential nature of the enlightenment potential, which contains much without accumulating anything. This is called Heaven in terms of knowledge, but is called Earth in terms of noumenon. In terms of awareness, it is called Heaven; in terms of tranquillity, it is called Earth.


It can also be called Heaven in terms of essence and Earth in terms of cul- tivation. Also, intellectual activity in the course of cultivation can be called


Heaven, while practical activity can be called Earth. In reality, neither Heaven nor Earth takes precedence over the other; they are used to represent oneness of noumenon and knowledge, nonduality of tranquillity and awareness, interpenetration of essential nature and cultivation, the mutual adornment of virtue and wisdom.


Here the reason for speaking in a linear order where there is no linear order is that noumenon is revealed by knowledge, tranquillity is revealed by awareness, culture is developed by nature, virtue is guided by wisdom. Then noumenon and knowledge merge, tranquillity and awareness unite, culture and nature combine, virtue and wisdom blend. Therefore the text says, "Consummate is the creative basis of earth; all things live on its sustenance, as it follows the communications it receives from heaven."


Action in accord with noumenon, the inner design of reality, benefits one- self and benefits others as well. One practice is all practices, so its quality accords with boundless knowledge; "its embrace is far-reaching and its light is great."
