The word redeem means the repurchase of captured goods, possessions or prisoners, it is usually done with what was equivalent in buying the goods, the possessions or the prisoners. That means that if you were a captured prisoner, you had to be repurchased. To redeem is to recover liberate, rescue from captivity, bondage, obligation or liability!
