Whether it’s been organizing relief aid to disaster zones, pushing our leaders to help the neediest, or standing up to powerful interests, Eleazar Meléndez has dedicated his life to positive change.Seeing the immense need for that kind of leadership in local politics, Eleazar is running for city commissioner in Miami, which would make him one of the five legislators that run the city.

Eleazar has a vision of service that takes on Miami’s most pressing issues head on— where children play in safe and clean streets, where people going to and coming from work are not stuck in traffic for hours, where neighbors are part of a resilient community that helps each other in times of crisis. It’s a vision where Miami further prioritizes addressing flooding worsened by sea level rise and natural disasters made more frequent by climate change, where we do something about the high cost of housing, and fix the traffic nightmare here. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Eleazar graduated with a B.A. from Columbia University in the City of New York. His first job, in the heart of Wall Street during the worst of the 2008 global financial crisis, exposed him to a unique perspective -- seeing with his own eyes how the big banks used the crisis, and the politicians who protected them throughout, to continue abusing regular people and small business.
