The free trade agreement between the EU and Vietnam EVFTA is one of the newest endeavours of Vietnam regarding the international integration process, which is anticipated to be beneficial for Vietnam in many aspects across industries. It has been one year since the EVFTA came into force in August 1st, 2020. A recent World Bank study showed that the implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) will help Vietnam’s GDP increase by up to 3.2 per cent in the next decade. Thanks to the EU-Vietnam agreement, German companies can enjoy protection of investments with trade facilitations when investing in Vietnam. A wide range of benefits are removing tariffs, reducing regulatory barriers and overlapping red tape, ensuring protection of geographical indications, opening up services and public procurement markets. Therefore, an increase of German enterpreneurs consider to shift their manufactures from China to Vietnam according to the “China plus One” strategy. Based on the improved condition and favourable environment in Vietnam, there will be many FDI flows for high-valued projects of German into Vietnam and this country will benefit a lot from German well-known technology in management and training, more value-added production and less waste of material and resources.
