Results from LFA 89 on Friday night and UFC Vegas 8 on Saturday as well as upcoming action early this coming week and new matchup announcements... This is your Colorado MMA News, Weekend WrapUp.

Josh Fremd of Factory X fought at LFA 89 on Friday night with his new team behind him for the first time. Fremd took on the previously undefeated Lamar Gosey in a light heavyweight matchup and Fremd looked phenomenal for as long as the fight lasted, ending the bout in the first round with big knees inside the clinch that had Gosey out on his feet. Fremd’s follow up ground and pound simply sealed the deal and gave the Factory X new comer his 5th win of his pro career.

And then on Saturday night, four Colorado fighters took to the Octagon for UFC Vegas 8.

Mallory Martin of Elevation Fight Team got the the night of fights started off with an exhilarating performance, surviving and coming back from being dropped in the first round to take down her opponent and find a rear naked choke submission, picking up the win, a performance of the night bonus and her first UFC victory. Congratulations to the now $50k richer, Mallory Martin.

Next up was Zak Cummings of Factory X who won in a striking chess match over his game opponent, Allessio De Cherico en route to the 24th win of his pro career and his 9th victory within the UFC. A good bounce back win for the Factory X middleweight.

Then in the co main event of the evening, Neil Magny of Elevation Fight Team won another dominant unanimous decision victory, this time over former Champ, Robbie Lawler. With the win, Magny became the second most winningest fighter in UFC welterweight history! A big step forward for Magny towards contendership and a potential future title shot.

And in the main event, Anthony Smith of Factory X fought a clear future light heavyweight title contender in Aleksandr Rakic. Smith had a bit of trouble finding his range and pace during the fight, having to overcome nasty leg kicks of Rakić early. Smith proved durable and game as usual, but Rakic’s power and heavy top game proved to be too much for Smith on Saturday night and Rakić was able to pick up the unanimous decision victory. Watch for Anthony Smith to bounce back stronger as he always does.

And in early fight action this week, coming up Tuesday night, Cody Brundage (5-0) of Factory X and Nate “The Savage” Smith (6-0) of Elevation Fight Team each gets their respective shots at the big show and a chance to impress the boss, on the Dana White contender series.
