The word Advent comes from the Latin word Adventus, meaning arrival or coming. Advent talks about two comings, First we recall the birth of Jesus and also about the coming of Jesus at the end of time.Our readings at Mass during Advent help us to prepare for the coming of Jesus, to open our hearts to welcome him. This period of waiting allows us to take stock of our lives, looking to see what lies in our hearts that should not be there and remove any obstacle that prevents us from welcoming Jesus. The Sacrament of Confession fits perfectly into Advent as it prepares us for Christmas in a more meaningful way.
