Our guests on this weeks programme are from a little further afield than usual, joining us all the way from Pennsylvania in USA. John and Shane speak to Nathan and Evelyn Vanderhoof (and their family) about the Bruderhof Community - an international movement of Christian communities whose members are called to follow Jesus together in the spirit of the Sermon on the Mount and of the first church in Jerusalem, sharing all our talents, income, and possessions. Nathan and Evelyn join us to share what it means to be part of this counter cultural witness in the modern world taking us through some of the practicalities of life as a married couple with small children in a very different way of life.

We have our regular run through local notices, saints of the week and of course the reflection on the Sunday Gospel.

The Bruderhof, an international movement of Christian communities whose members are called to follow Jesus together in the spirit of the Sermon on the Mount and of the first church in Jerusalem, sharing all our talents, income, and possessions (Acts 2 and 4). Bruderhof communities, which include both families and single people from a wide range of backgrounds, are located in the United States, England, Germany, Australia, and Paraguay.
Focused on faith in Jesus expressed by living in community, holding things in common in a community of goods, these communities aim is to live as disciples of Jesus – to give up everything for the kingdom of God. They wish to be witnesses… to be people who do not proclaim themselves, but Christ.

To find out more about the community:

1.  Another Life is possible
Yes, it is possible to create a society where there are no rich or poor, where children and elderly are welcome, where no one lives in isolation. Meet 100 individuals from diverse backgrounds who ventured everything to build a life together where everyone belongs and each can contribute, pooling their income, possessions, talents, and energy.

As the community marks its first 100 years, the people in this book tell why they have chosen this radical way of life and share insights gleaned along the way. Their stories represent a cross section of the Bruderhof as an international and intergenerational community. With photography by British photojournalist Danny Burrows, this book celebrates what is possible when people take a leap of faith. It will inspire anyone working to build a more just, peaceful, and sustainable future.

Some examples of photos of daily life are available on the books website and it is an interesting introduction to the community.
