I’m thrilled to bring on today’s guest, Sheila Morovati, founder of the Crayon Collection and Habits of Waste. Sheila’s two non-profit organizations help to bridge the gap of waste that our world produces from things like crayons, plastic cutlery and straws. In this episode, she details her journey of building both non-profits and some of the inspiring brands she teamed up with (and how her organization even set a Guinness World Record!) We talk about the events she puts on, things you can do to eliminate the use of plastic cutlery and how to teach your kids about doing their part in recycling for our planet. About Sheila:
Sheila Michail Morovati is the President and Founder of two non-profit organizations, Crayon Collection and Habits of Waste (H.o.W). Crayon Collection is a non-profit organization that has successfully been collecting gently-used crayons from restaurant chains nationwide and donating them to underserved schools internationally. Habits of Waste focuses on finding solutions to shift habits of waste among mass society. With a Sociology degree from UCLA, she has successfully been growing her non-profits since 2013. Sheila spearheaded the ban of plastic straws, utensils and stirrers in the City of Malibu and more recently through her #CutOutCutlery campaign she convinced UberEats to change the default setting in their application (globally) so that no one receives plastic cutlery unless they request it. She has also set a Guinness World Record in August 2018 for the largest crayon donation in history with over 1 million crayons donated to teachers at LAUSD and Head Start Centers in Los Angeles. Sheila lives in Los Angeles with her husband and 2 children.
